Cardiovascular disease is a complex and multifactorial disease and is characterized by multiple factors. Dietary factors are important contributors to cardiovascular risk, either directly, or through their effects on other cardiovascular risk factors including hypertension, dyslipidemia etc. Nutraceuticals are natural nutritional compounds that play a vital role in maintaining well-being, enhancing health, modulating immunity and thereby preventing as well as treating specific diseases. Physicians today have an arsenal of medications and different therapies including chemotherapy that they can prescribe to treat Patients of CVD, but are truly expensive and are prone to many side effects. Hence nutraceuticals can be a Great help in clinical therapy as they have the ability to significantly reduce the risk of side effects associated with chemotherapy along with reduction in the global health care cost. The purpose of this review is to present an update on the benefits and use of nutraceuticals in relation to the development, prevention, treatment and progression of cardiovascular diseases.
